WELCOME!

This is an ongoing US and global project to help enthusiasts, scholars, practitioners, and curious parties learn more about shamanic living in a contemporary culture. The space here is devoted to sharing info, experiences and opinions about all forms of shamanic expression covering shamanism's multiple permutations. Among subjects explored are traditions, techniques, insights, definitions, events, artists, authors, and creativity. You are invited to draw from your own experiences and contribute.

What Is Shamanic Living?

Are you a shaman in disguise—perhaps even from yourself? Are you a nurse wanting to be a shamanic nurse, a web designer wanting to be a shamanic web designer? Is there a shamanic element to your healing practice that is still a mystery to you? Are you (or is someone in your community) going through a dark night of the soul that seems to be beyond what “consensus reality” can attend to? If so, this blog is for you.

This is not an all-inclusive education in a specific shamanic school that will allow you to become a practicing shaman—as that could take years. More, it is words of insight about a way of living that allows anyone to learn to walk in two worlds simultaneously. It is an "Education In A Box, er, Blog" that will better equip you to live your own current “city” life in a more indigenous and shamanic way. It also helps you with typical shamanic “problems” such as coming to understand what of your troubles are really “yours” and what you might have taken on for your community, how to help your community by working with the community spirits, and more.

In this blog, I will work first from the amazing text (what I call my shamanic bible) The Shaman's Body by Arnold Mindell. You can get a copy at amazon.com or order from your local bookstore. It is well worth the read, as it continues to be a mystery even as it unfolds very practical truths.

I'm glad you have decided to join me, and please, post often. To have a community is essential.

Shungo (my heart to yours), Robin

For years, I've had this idea in my heart about a way of living, "living in this world, but not being of it"..you've put it very well in your first post..I really didn't have a name for what I wanted to do or be, but now think I've found it! Looking forward to more posts...

hi Robin, thanks for posting this insightful perspective. i've so very much enjoyed your workshops and friendship -your shamanic influence on me has been significant.

as i continue to find acceptance and peace within the uncomfortable stuff, i understand it is not a linear journey. sometimes the clarity is staggering - and yet the knowing and the truth that i feel deep within can also sometimes seem muddied by the daily junk. internal and external. it truly does feel at times as though "i walk in two worlds." in our human existance, with duality constantly at play, i feel my greatest challenge is to find a certain neutrality - i guess the Buddhists call it "the middle way" - and honor it all.
